TubeBuddy: A Free Chrome Extension

It doesn’t matter if you are new to vlogging or have a fairly active YouTube channel; you will benefit from downloading and using TubeBuddy. This a Chrome extension that will help you grow, manage and even optimize your channel so that you can reach a lot of viewers. While TubeBuddy is very powerful, which can be daunting to some people, it is also fairly easy to use and offers powerful features inside your YouTube interface.

There are both free and paid versions of TubeBuddy, which means that you can start using this tool without committing to paying a fee for it. With TubeBuddy, you will be able to find popular tags for your new videos, publish your videos to Facebook, and easily find the best time to publish new videos for the most views.

When you’re ready to really optimize your channel, then you’ll love the promotion tools that are designed to drive new traffic to your page and the ability to see information about various topics you want to vlog about. This includes what’s trending, what kind of competition there is talking about the topic, and what tags are being used on the top-ranked videos.

Additionally, you’ll be notified when someone mentions your channel, which allows you the opportunity to follow up with them and keep an eye on any competition that you have. While you certainly can run a YouTube channel without TubeBuddy, using it will make your job not only easier but less time-consuming and a lot more fun as well.

You Need a Good Microphone

The next thing that you’re going to need in order to start vlogging and really drive new subscribers to your channel is a great microphone. Many people take this for granted and think that they can simply use the microphones on their computers or smartphones, but this is often a mistake as built-in microphones simply aren’t powerful enough to capture high-quality sound.

Because you want your viewers to be able to clearly hear what you are saying, a good microphone is an important investment. Built-in microphones are designed to pick up all ambient noise in a room, which means that your viewers may struggle to hear you properly.

The best kind of microphone that you can use for your YouTube channel is a cardioid microphone, like the Audio-Technica AT2020 on Amazon. These types microphones are specifically designed to record in just one direction and are ideal for recording one speaker. With this microphone, you’ll be able to easily record what you want to say without worrying about other noises in your room being picked up and recorded as well.

Most YouTubers use USB microphones. These are ideal for recording near a computer as they plug directly into your laptop. DSLR microphones, which mount to DSLR cameras, are also popular but tend to be much more expensive. Finally, lavalier microphones clip to your clothing and while they tend to be omnidirectional, you can usually edit out background sounds at a later time. This is what I have done with the Rode SmartLav+, also on Amazon. I have also written a review of it, which you can find here.

You Need a Tripod

It doesn’t matter if you are always going to be sitting during your videos to talk to your viewers or moving around, such as if you are a yoga teacher, you need to make sure that you have a quality tripod that will hold your camera steady while it is recording. If you have ever seen the Blair Witch Project, then you know how difficult it can be to watch a video that is shaky. The last thing that you want to do is turn off potential viewers because your videos have a lot of movement to them, making them difficult to watch.

By mounting your camera on a tripod, you can not only ensure that your shots are all stable and free from movement but also take videos from different angles, which can make your videos much more interesting to watch. By using a tripod, you can pan and tilt the camera without worrying about the shot becoming shaky.

Make sure that you look for a tripod that is lightweight enough for you to easily carry it with you but is still functional. If you choose a tripod that is too difficult to use, then you will probably find yourself trying to shoot videos without it. It’s also important to make sure that the tripod you choose is compatible with your camera so you can easily attach it.

You Need a Powerful Computer

The right computer won’t automatically make you a YouTube star but it will make it a lot easier for you to edit and upload your videos without becoming frustrated. Depending on the age and the speed of your current computer, you may be able to use it for a while without upgrading to a nicer piece of equipment.

As your YouTube channel takes off, however, you will want to be able to upload better editing software on your computer if necessary and spend more time working on your videos. It’s very difficult to do this on certain types of computers and ones that are really old. For this reason, upgrading to a better computer is likely to become a necessity.

Not only will a more powerful computer work faster when you are editing and uploading but a better computer will be able to easily run the software that you need. You don’t want to be limited by the old software on your computer as this can frustrate you when working on your channel.

You Need a Good Camera

Some people may argue that a good camera isn’t as important as a high-quality microphone, depending on the type of videos that you are planning on producing. If you are interested in making videos that primarily show your computer screen so you can create tutorials and walk people through video games or editing, then a great camera won’t be as important as your viewers will not be seeing you.

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100, which can be found on Amazon, is a small Point-and-Shoot camera that I usually recommend for beginners. It is small enoguh to carry around at all times and it also has a flip-screen.

On the other hand, if you are going to be in your shots at all or are going to show views that are different from your computer screen, then it’s important to invest in a nice camera that is not only easy for you to use but produces quality shots without fail. With the right camera, you will immediately notice that your videos look a lot more professional than something that you could just as easily shoot with your phone.

Since YouTube rolled out high-definition (1080p) capabilities a few years ago, YouTubers have been taking advantage of HD recording capabilities to ensure that their videos stand out from others on the site. It’s important that you buy a camera with the right features so that your videos will look professional.

Make sure that your camera has a good optical zoom so you can see where your shot will be focused so you don’t have blurry or grainy footage when zooming on subjects. It’s also a good idea to opt for a camera that has a wide-angle lens so you can take footage that is formatted for viewing on a wide screen. Since more and more people watch YouTube channels on their TVs and TVs are built for widescreen shots, you can reach a larger audience with this formatting.

You Need a Strong Will

Finally, if you want to become a YouTuber, then you need to be dedicated, have a thick skin, and willing to work incredibly hard. Many people dream of starting a YouTube channel and having tons of subscribers right away but that simply isn’t what happens for most people. In general, vloggers spend a lot of time and effort recording, editing, and uploading their videos while at the same time reaching out to other vloggers and forming a community.

If vlogging seems to be something that you can do just a few nights a week or when the urge strikes you, then you probably won’t ever get very far with it as it does take a lot of dedication and willingness to work hard. Not only do you need to come up with new vlogging topics but managing your channel and improving your videos is time-consuming and can be difficult.

Because you are likely to update your YouTube channel for a while without anyone subscribing or sharing your videos, you need to believe in what you do and be willing to keep working even if it is just for yourself. With the right mindset and dedication, you are much more likely to become successful as a YouTuber, but you do need to be willing to work harder than ever before.
